she'll bring out the best and the worst you can be

while doing custodial work this morning, i was listening to billy joel on my phone. the longest time, if you must know. hannah mentioned the song she's always a woman.

it got me thinking back to february 19th.
when billy played that song, i really felt him playing it for me.
boys were making me sad, but billy was there to sing for me.

.....

i remember the first time i heard this song. i was in my parents' 1992 ford escort. the radio was on, it was dark, and i was driving around syracuse probably going to branticus' house or something. i heard the words, recognized billy joel, and wrote the lyrics in my phone so i could look up the song later. i was fairly new to billy at this point.

i think the missionary had something to do with my initial liking of billy back when i was 15, but he doesn't have anything to do with my continual smitten-ness with the piano man.

.....

the most she will do is throw shadows at you...

I thought you said you were driving around in 1992 to Brant's house. And I was like, "did you REALLY know Brant in '92? And did you REALLY remember going to see him and listening to Billy Joel?"
