An interesting point was brought to my attention today while I was in my Book of Mormon class.
My professor (who is one of my favorite professors...he really makes the material way interesting) talked about how people go to church and we all put on this façade of being perfect. People just act as though nothing's wrong with their lives and that they are perfect. He then said, "Isn't the point of church and going to church to help strengthen each other up?" He talked about how we can do that by acknowledging our weaknesses and not treating them as though they were like, abominable.
Granted, we probably shouldn't plaster our business all over the place, but at the same time, we should not be pretending we're perfect. We're all human. We all make mistakes. Conversing with people who give off the aura of complete perfectness is kind of intimidating, because they make you feel like you should be better than you are. You're treated with disdain. It's ridiculous.
I used to have this friend who was kind of like that. She was so self-righteous and it just got on everybody's nerves (hence the term "used to have").
He also talked about how it's through weaknesses that we grow as individuals; how if we never admit our weaknesses, they can never be fixed.
So, all you "perfectly righteous" people out there....take a real good look at your lives and think about those things that you do need to work on and find strength in the good people around you to overcome those weaknesses. I promise, those of us "perfectly UNrighteous" people won't judge and throw our disgusting Jello casseroles all over your suburban slash minivan (or maybe we will...we all do have weaknesses....who's to say that my weakness isn't suburban vandalism? hmmm...something to ponder).
P.S. None of what I said was directed to anybody in particular. I figured since I have at least a few people who actually read my blog now, I should clear that up. :)

I think that this is the reason that so many people posted secrets about being disallusioned with Mormon Mommy blogs. People need to know that it's OK not to be perfect, and that sometimes your kids and your husband drive you crazy. Doesn't make you a bad person, mom, or wife to feel that way.
Let me just throw this out there:
I'm not perfect. I let everyone know that. (well except for my mother.) Well I'm not perfect as a Mormon. I'm perfect in any other way.... hahaha there goes my arrogance again.
But seriously, if we were ever friends in real life, you'd find out how NOT perfect I am, but I don't plaster that on the internet.
DAMMIT KRISTINA! I THOUGHT I BEAT YOU!!!!!!!!
I'm upset.
I agree. Self righteousness drives me crazy.
I like it when people can admit they are not perfect (because we already know they are not). But I like the people who are constantly trying to be better without trying to rub it in other peoples faces how better they are trying to be. Does that make sense?
I think we should always be bettering ourselves and trying to be good influences/examples to others. And NEVER acting like we are better than anyone. But I do not think we should go around acting like our problems make us cool. I don't know if you know anyone like that.. but I do.
I have a tahoe.. but no kids. Oh.. or an accord. Please don't egg me because I need a 4 wheel drive vehicle because I live in the boonies in Idaho where it snows dozens of feet every winter. :) (and I like being tall)
I was actually thinking a little about your secrets post, Kristina, when I wrote this.
And Boob Nazi...if I get what you're saying, I think you're right in talking about not posting everything on the internet. I agree with that. It's all about finding that balance, I think...I don't know for sure. The thought just came to me today, so I'm still figuring out the logistics. :)
And Whitney R, haha, I didn't see the "R" at first on your name, and thought you were my friend from Orem, Whitney. So, when you said you lived in the boonies in Idaho I was thinking, "No you don't!" Haha, but turns out you are the Whitney who does live in Idaho. But what you said made sense. And I promise I won't egg your car.
Haha, and by the way, I liked your second comment, Boob Nazi. Made me laugh.
Dammit to hell kayleigh, I thought I taught you better.
